Heritage and Accessibility Conference – Accessing Your Heritage

This unique event is being held on October 20, 2021 from 12pm to 5pm.
Evolving the Meaning of Heritage – Keynote speaker is Lesley Collins, Program Manager, Heritage Planning at City of Ottawa
With keynotes and lively panel discussions, which will explore questions, such as:
- How Official Plan updates can move universal accessibility forward
- De-standardizing (“de-grandfathering”) heritage buildings for adaptive re-use. What is possible and realistic? Not new building ideas for old buildings.
- What barriers exist to more communication and collaboration between built environment professionals?
- In what ways do policies/by-laws restrict the enhancement of heritage building universal accessibility?
- Keeping our heritage buildings relevant and welcoming to all
- Deconstructing the idea of “heritage”- understanding of the principles of architectural conservation and universal design.
Breakout Sessions will explore four themes:
- The Business Case for Accessibility
- The Next Generation: Training Gaps and Opportunities
- Getting to Yes with the Right Communication
- Accessibility Barriers and Low Cost/No Cost Solutions
