AMS Webinar #3: The Business of Aging

April 17, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

OBIAA has long been a champion of accessible main streets and businesses. In a new 4-part webinar series commencing on March 28th, BIAs and their business members will learn about how Ontario businesses are championing accessibility, including being more age-friendly; how BIAs can work more collaboratively with their local Accessibility Advisory Committee and municipal staff; how to remove, reduce, and prevent main street accessibility barriers; and how to tap into more tourism dollars.

These free webinars are part of OBIAA’s Accessible Main Streets Project and participants will get OBIAA’s new The Business of Accessibility Handbook which offers no cost/low cost ways that businesses and BIAs can be more accessible and inclusive.

Moderator: Andrew Marks, City of Timmins Councillor and Communications Director for the Timmins Separate School Board (TBC)

Presenters

  • Terry Guiel, Downtown Peterborough BIA
  • Chris Kawalec, County of Peterborough

Everyone knows that Ontario’s population is aging but did you know that 40% of people age 65 and older will retire with at least one disability? The need for greater accessibility will increase so a focus on access is a smart and sustainable business investment. This webinar will explore how the County of Peterborough is taking steps to proactively make its community as accessible and age-friendly as possible. Tips will be given on how businesses can be more senior friendly, including to those with dementia and other non-apparent disabilities.
