Every three years nonprofits and businesses with 20+ employees need to complete a report with the Ontario Government confirming their compliance with the AODA. For public sector organizations, this must be done every two years.

How to Make Accessible Word & PDFs

Previously, only people with web coding skills could make accessible documents and web content. However, with the advancements in everyday software, now anyone can create and maintain accessible documents!

This workshop will expand on your existing knowledge of Microsoft Word and PDF documents to show you how easy it can be to make documents that are accessible.

What You Will Learn:

  1. What makes a Microsoft Word and PDF document accessible
  2. How to format a Word document for accessibility
  3. Where relevant menu items are in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat programs
  4. Procedures to create accessible documents
  5. The different types of PDF documents
  6. How to convert an existing PDF or Word document into an accessible PDF

Hands-On Workshop:
How to Make InAccessible PDFs Accessible
May 16th – REGISTER    9:30 am to 4:00pm (Toronto)This hands-on workshop is a follow-up to the “How to make Accessible Word Documents” workshop (Part1), it has been designed with the approach of addressing more complicated content.

  • How do I make tables with merged cells more accessible?
  • What do I do with complicated drawings and charts?
  • When should I use the auto tag feature in Acrobat?
  • How do I fix incorrect reading order?
  • We use a lot of abbreviations – how do I make them accessible?

This is a hands-on, in-depth course that tackles the complexity of creating accessible PDFs from inaccessible documents within Acrobat Professional.

AODA Training:
Online training to meet your compliance requirements
All organizations with 1+ employees should have completed training on all 5 AODA standards and on the Ontario Human Rights Code, as it relates to persons with disabilities. The compliance deadline for large nonprofits and businesses (50+ employees) was Jan. 1, 2015 and small organizations was Jan. 1, 2016. Existing and future staff, volunteers and board members must also all receive AODA training.

Accessibility Ontario offers 20-minute online training courses to help your organization easily meet this training requirement. Our courses include practical tips, case studies, a quiz, and certificate of completion.
