A new study in Toronto supports what other cities have found: trading street parking for a bike lane doesn’t hurt the local economy, and often helps.

All indicators (below) point to increased economic activity on Toronto streets following the installation of bike lanes.

1. Monthly spending rose.

2. The number of customers rose.

3. The frequency of visits rose.

4. Vacancies held steady.
