The Ontario government is offering funding of up to $1,000 each, the Main Street Relief Grant will help about 60,000 eligible small businesses create a safer place to shop for their customers and a safer space to work for their employees.
Small businesses with two to nine employees in the retail, accommodations and food services, repair and maintenance, and personal and laundry services sectors can apply for this one-time grant. It will reimburse them for up to $1,000 of personal protective equipment (PPE) purchases – including masks, gloves, and plexiglass installation – to help keep employees, customers, and communities safe from COVID-19. This grant adds to the $2,500 many Ontario small businesses have received through the Digital Main Street program to help them get online.
Retroactive Grant: PPE purchases made all the way back until March 17, 2020 can be submitted for reimbursement. Eligible businesses, whether applying for the Main Street Relief Grant for PPE – or for property tax or energy rebates in affected regions – will be able to do it all through one application on a new online portal.
