Ontario Business Improvement Area Association

The Ontario Business Improvement Area Association (OBIAA) is a network representing and supporting BIAs across Ontario. We encourage and guide BIAs to increase their effectiveness, contribution to the economic, cultural and social well-being of communities.

OBIAA is a leader in the development and sharing of information, tools, training, resources and best practices.

Digital Main Street

Digital Main Street helps Ontarioโ€™s main street businesses grow by adopting digital tools and technologies to improve online retail and streamline back office processes.

Return on Investment of BIAs

The Return ON Investment of BIAs Study will identify the common success factors needed by BIAs, industry and government to assess the contribution of BIAs to their communities.

Accessibility

The Accessibility Smart Businesses Project aims to identify and remove barriers to employment for persons with disabilities in communities across Ontario.

Goverment Relations

OBIAA meets annually with the Planning, Environment, Resources and Land (PERL) Provincial Deputy Ministries and Assistant Deputy Ministers encouraging understanding and recognition of the paradigms facing โ€˜Main Streetโ€™ Ontario.

With the spread of COVID-19 and the partial, temporary and full closures of many businesses, we know that small business owners have questions about how to deal with their employees. Join Stephen Wolpert and Marc Kitay, partners at award-winning employment law boutique Whitten & Lublin for a session to answer questions like:

-Am I allowed to lay my staff off during this emergency?
-What are the consequences of doing so?
-What if I canโ€™t afford to rehire them when the emergency ends?
-Are my employees eligible for employment insurance or wage subsidies?
-If I am the owner but I am on payroll, am I eligible?
-What steps can I take to protect myself from claims by my employees?
